Everyone has an opinion but when you start sharing wrong info as fact I
feel i have to call you on it. Sorry you are having problems with your
G4 upgrade. It is either defective or not setup correctly. I've been
running a G3 500 mhz OWC mercury cpu in an XLR8 carrier card for 1 1/2
years with no trouble at all from the cpu & card. It is over-clocked to
550mhz and running at a bus of 55mhz. The backside cache of 1mb is
running at 2:1 at 275mhz in OSX 10.2 and 5:2 219mhz in OS 9.1 The only
real issues were older or wrong spec ram which did cause some problems
until sorted out.

It is true that some people are having issues with the Sonnet G4 800mhz
upgrade. Yes it is pushing the limits of the machine but I'd guess the
issue is likely either ram or the cpu. Ram is an issue anytime you go
over apox 300 mhz. I had to replace some older 8mb 70ns ram when I over
-clocked from 300 to 350mhz. The jump to 550mhz and OSX found ram
issues again even though the ram worked fine at that speed in OS 9.1
Replacing a couple of 16mb 4k refresh chips fixed this issue. At least
one person has said that in order to run the G4 800mhz cpu you need all
128mb chips. Based on what I have seen as speed goes up I wouldn't be
surprised at all. I'm looking forward to the Powerlogix G3 800mhz
upgrades. As many of you know I am no fan of the non clockable Sonnet
cpu's. It will be interesting to see how they compare and if they are
clockable. Best of luck. Will S
