Thank you.  That is much clearer.   Did Mitch say where to get this 
Russian firmware file?  I wonder if simply erasing the chip or 
replacing it with a blank (new) one would have the same effect.

The scans are 1.3 MB and 1.4 MB in the original.   I will throw them 
back up on my site for a few days and you may download them.  That 
seems easier than emailing them, since my ftp client is better about 
large file transfers than my email client.   Also, that way, if 
anyone else wants them they can grab them at the same time.

They'll be at http://www.io.com/~trag and look for files 
S900_MB_1.jpg and S900_MB_2.jpg.   Alternatively, you cna go to 
http://www.jeffwalther.com but you get a banner at the bottom (the 
price of register.com's forwarding service).
