Well some things don't quit add up about this story perhaps a gap in
translating or who knows.
Here is what I seem to understand. The available flasher with the
Generic Mac Rom only works /runs in MS Dos. This is the reason for
needing to put the card in a PC. If we had a Mac Rom Flasher we could
change the chip but we don't at this time. A Russian guy I'm told did
some code changing to make this flasher work in MS Dos on a PC card.
The Mac Rom flasher and everything needed including the 208 rom updater
and info on how to do it is included in the file Chrisso has been so
kind as to list above. It is a very nice package even makes a copy of
the PC ATI firmware on a floppy in case you need to for some reason put
it back on the chip. ( this could be done to return the card)

Now the part I don't understand Chrisso makes it sound like the 208 rom
updater flasher (which is used in the package) is the whole answer to
the issue. Mitch on the german forum states clearly they tried flashing
the PC card using that updater in the Mac and the 208 rom updater
refuses to update the PC card. So somehow they managed to code a Mac
Flasher which works in MS Dos and figured out a way to make it work. It
happens Mitch used an ATI 7000 64 mb card PCI card made by the german
company Sapphire. It is thought the ATI made 7000 64 and 32mb PCi cards
as long as they are DDR ram and not SDAM ram should also work. It has
been confirmed that some one has used this method to flash an ATI PC
7000 AGP card and it is running in a Mac that takes AGP cards.
I found a Sapphire PC 7000 64mb card this afternoon for a very cheap
price but this evening they are no longer listed just the 32mb version.
I see some differences between the ATI and Sapphire 7000 64mb cards if
the pictures I found on line are correct. The Sapphire card is a two
monitor card like the Mac version but the ATI version only has the SVGA
port no second port. The Sapphire 32mb card also has the two ports as
does the ATI 32 mb card. The Mac cards as we know run $117-129. The
Sapphire cards are $44-60 apox and the ATI PC 7000 64mb card is $69.99
best price I've found with shipping . I'm still hoping to find the
Sapphire 64 mb version but may try the Sapphire 32 mb card as it is
only $44.00 including shipping. Sapphire cards are mostly sold in the
Eu there website says see you at the Moscow trade show! The other thing
about Sapphire cards you could end up with a Pal version if you buy
from the wrong place. Well I'm tried of this for now. i hope this makes
at least some sense ;-)
                                                Will S
PS Chrisso I'm hoping you will explain about the 208 updater since
Mitch says it's only part of the solution and his package does use it.
Have you used the 208 update flasher on a PC card without first doing
the other steps outlined in Mitch's package? Did it really work as you
say it does? I'm confused on this issue.

To be clear as far as I know only Mitch is running Mac OS 9.1 using
this flashed card and no one has yet ran OSX with it. Chrisso have you
flashed a card and are you running it? Lots of talk but few facts so
far.
