I just acquired a S900 and am having all sorts of issues trying to get it to boot up. I had OS 8.6 on one drive and all was good. I later had to move a few things around inside the computer and when I hooked everything back up, I got a flashing "?". The system won't even boot to the cd rom, that had to be unplugged as well. I am positive that at least the cd rom was correctly reconnected. As far as the system drive is concerned, no matter what position on the scsi chain I place it, the system will not boot. I can only get the computer to start if I boot up from an external CD ROM. Furthermore, when I do boot up and reformat the drive (have done several times;low level), when I restart the computer, it won't recognize it! Not only that, but it has to be reinitialized. I have tried two different drives and both act the same way.
My big question is where on the scsi chain should the boot drive reside? Right now CD ROM is where it always was with the first plug on the cable and the scsi id is "3". the system drive is at the end of the chain and has an id of "5". Does all this mean anything. I had the system running where it is now, but since I opened the computer up, nothing works. Desperate for help. -- SuperMacs is sponsored by <http://lowendmac.com/> and...
