---- My MachFire card is no slot 3 with no problems. I had to drop the throughput speed one notch in the Hard Disk Speed Tools firewire utility with no objectionable speed penalty. The firewire port is currently used for the 60gb firewire drive that is plugged in occasionally for backups. Have no experience with other firewire peripherals such as burners or scanners.
