Here's my follow-up:

Well, I couldn't find a cheap card w/o VIA chipset, but it was late, I
wanted FireWire, and I was still in a PC shop, so I bought a 40 and
something Euro 4-port Firewire card built by a German manufacturer,
"Dawicontrol", with a Texas Instruments 1394 Chipset.
At home, I first thought I made a mistake, the manual says it has to be
installed in a "Busmaster" slot (isn't that slot A or B in the S900?),
but it works like a charm in slot E, plug and play in OS 9 and OS X.

Video editing works flawlessly, I use a Sony camcorder borrowed from a
friend, and had no problems recording more than 1 Gig of video at once to my
HD. I used iMovie 1 in OS 9.2.2. Exporting to Quicktime (Sorenson) could be
a little bit faster, but all in all, my S900 does a pretty good job.

In OS X 10.2.4, I get different results: I already optimized my HD for
video, it's an 30GB ATA66 Western Digital with a free 10GB partition, but
after some seconds, iMovie 2 comes up with an error message saying my hard
disk is to slow. Hmm, but it's fast enough in 9.2.2, so just another reason
to stay away from OS X :-)

Thanks again for the tips,

Chrisso
