Well, I had not seen these yet. Thanks for the update.

However, I'm not surprised. Apple clearly signalled its intentions with the Safari beta several months back. I haven't tried it yet, but guess it's time to download.

Maybe Safari will come along quickly. One certainly hopes so, and there is no question IE left much to be desired (complete CSS support, pop-up ad blocking, better customization). If the Apple people are committed to a proprietary browser, they'd best get going and make it a very good one indeed, else the strategy of pushing the Mac as the "I" hub of anything will sound hollow.

Abandoning standalone versions of Explorer also makes sense for Microsoft; I don't see this decision necessarily being from spite. During the antitrust case Gates & Co. made much of IE being an integral part of Windows, which wasn't entirely true. Thus the imperative to make it true, lest the gov't come calling again.
