What OS are you running? You might check to see that you're running fairly up-to-date FW extensions. Otherwise, my guess would be the card (haven't heard of this model before). I've been using a VST FW/USB card with great success on my S900 in Slot #2. > For now I'm running scanner on laptop with built-in FW, but > even with larger CRT as parallel screen, the image calibration > is not good enough. That was a year or two ago and I can't recall exactly how to set it up (as a network "newbie", I just tinkered around until it worked). Perhaps one of the other list members with more network experience could give you detailed instructions. > > This behavior is not limited to the Minolta. The burner might not show it because of the limited throughput required, but transfers to/from your hard drives might. I originally purchased an Orange Micro FW/USB card which frustrated me for close to a year - was almost ready to give up on FW with the S900. Then I read a review of FireWire cards on "XLR8 Your Mac" and there was a marked difference in data throughput between different models, so I ended up purchasing the VST (which also has an power connector on it, figuring that maybe part of my problem was not enough power on the PCI bus). Bang! Now I'm able to export/capture digital video to/from my Sony Digital 8 camcorder, transfer data back and forth to an 80 GB OWC FW drive, and burn DVD's on my Pioneer DVD burner (in a FW case). The only caveat is that I can't capture digital video (FW) directly from my camcorder to the FW drive - it hard crashes the computer. My guess is the limited bandwidth of the S900 PCI bus (or timing issues), so for now my workflow is capturing video in smaller chunks to an internal SCSI drive, copying them over to the FW drive, and then editing/outputting from there. For the record, the USB part of the card works great as well. > Internal SCSI bus has fast SCSI connector our of order since > apparent static mishap. Have you been pressing your "CUDA" button after making these hardware additions? Sometimes pressing the CUDA button and zapping the PRAM solves the most mysterious hardware problems.
