I've got a couple scanners that specify a factory installed firewire port as a requirement. I'm using Unibrain 3 port in S900, and had some brief success, until the new Minolta scanner seems to think some other software is connected-- unknown error, disengage other Dimage application-- paraphrased.
Tried moving card to top slot, and same problem. Anyone know what to do, or a more reliable firewire card to use? For now I'm running scanner on laptop with built-in FW, but even with larger CRT as parallel screen, the image calibration is not good enough. Wondering if I can network with crossover cable to get better work flow--needing to store 200MB files from scanner on drive in S900. So far its burn a CD and reload. Not familiar with simple networking, but also have G3/333 i-Mac available with limited RAM (128 MB) if its screen can be used This behavior is not limited to the Minolta. While FW burner works well, external 911 80GB drive fails to show reliably on S900, but does fine with ibook. Tried running FW troubleshooter, but it closes at end of start-up. Had used HDST to format, and wonder if Drive Setup would do better. Internal SCSI bus has fast SCSI connector our of order since apparent static mishap. Am using 2940uw in slot3, and new SIIG ATA 133 in slot 4, which works below 2940, but not above. Have been plaqued with freeze-ups on SCSI copying between volumes for some time, but new 160 GB on SIIG did a pretty good job of unloading about 12 gigs of images from filled SCSI drives-- 3 files of 500 were corrupted--as found by Norton. Would appreciate any help in getting this lame S900 back in shape. thanks David -- SuperMacs is sponsored by <http://lowendmac.com/> and...
