Hi All, After quite some time off the list I am back, the trusty C500 is ticking like clockwork as expected since I was here last.
Lately I have been looking at video card ROM flashing and found that some PC version Matrox Millennium and Millennium II can indeed be easily flashed for use with MacOS, and even found a way to determine if a card is convertible and methods of converting them to be convertible, if that makes sense at all. Knowing that a batch of Mystique 220 cards with Mac firmware was shipped to Umax for fitting to C600 models, I asked Matrox if the Mac firmware is available; after all, I do not think either Matrox or Umax would be financially harmed by someone doing so. Matrox replied that it has decided not to release the Mac fireware for the Mystique 220 (in other words, it exists somewhere in their files), perhaps as part of an agreement with Umax during the time when SuperMacs were still made. However, Umax still supplies the Mystique 220 driver for download. Out of academic curiosity, I put a PC-version in the box and then launched the ProgBios firmware updater application which identified the card correctly, but the lack of the required firmware is the only stumbling block. I am wondering if it is possible to save the Mac firmware from a Mystique 220, so that it can be used for flashing a PC version of the same card; if that be the case the video performace of the C500 would of course improve significantly. I shall be most interested in hearing from our learned members! All the best, Sam. -- SuperMacs is sponsored by <http://lowendmac.com/> and...
