Just last week I popped a 64 in a C500 at work and it wouldn't boot (no chime). That's why I asked. This machine is really odd. I had it at home without the RAM and it wouldn't boot. I pulled everything out of it (I had reset the PRAM and CUDA several time. Put it back together and it booted. Same thing happened at work. Maybe being unplugged helped it.
But yours boots and freezes. Sounds like bad RAM. Have you run Ram-o-Meter?
