Let me tell ya - when my drive crapped out couple years ago I was ready to open
it even if I was in the middle of a dust storm. I have perfect hindsight after
that experience. I convinced myself, in desperation, that clean room conditions
would be only for manufacturing and I may be able to get away with opening it
and maybe make it work again just long enough to get to the data. Actually, I
think some of the Listers have done this.
Mine was still under warranty but would have had to pay a very expensive
'official' data recovery service for the warranty to be valid afterwards. I
gave up on the data and had the drive replaced.
