With an older, small, hard disk that suffered "stiction", I popped the top
off, hooked it to a working drive in a SCSI chain, and, helping it start up
with a finger on the side of the platters, I transferred all the data not
gone away to the working drive.

Then, the little drive was sent to hard disk heaven.

The insanely precision disassembly required would send anyone not medicated
into paroxysms of twitch-fits after just a few hours of the attempt.
