What exactly does this mean? "Master" and "slave" aren't terms typically used in SCSI setups. Do you mean one was terminated, the others weren't? Do you mean one had a lower ID number than the other two? Are you referring to each device's relative position on the cable?

Just curious.  I've been working with SCSI for about 16 years now and never
heard of making a SCSI device a master or a slave....

I suspect that Scott could benefit from a basic primer on SCSI terminology and use. I just haven't had the energy to churn one out. Too much L-tryptophan (spelling?) in my system... Scott, you may wish to browse the early sections of <http://www.scsifaq.org>.
