Yesterday or the day before, my S900 started making a humming sound that
seems to get randomly louder and softer, faster and slower.

Does this sound like the power supply fan? Does the S900 typically have any
other fans, on the processor or anything? Or anything else that would make
such a noise? No CDs are in the optical drives, and I'd assume that if the
hard drives were sounding this weird I wouldn't be able to type this.

Am I tempting fate by letting it run? If the power supply dies I won't be
too upset, (this house has enough spare computers laying around to, well, to
do just about anything) but if I were to permanently lose the information on
the hard drives (two 2GB SCSIs hooked to an E100) I would be.

Is there a utility that I can use to check the CPU temp, or does the 604e
not have the built in thermometer like I think some other chips do?

There is a fairly strong breeze blowing when I put my hand behind the tower,
and the air coming out actually feels pretty cool. We've got Pentium 4 PCs
at work you could use as a hairdryer.
