PLM,
I don't have a fan on the heatsink. I took a
retention clip off of an old K6-2 or Celeron
heatsink/fan and bent it a bit so that it would fit
snugly over the zif carrier card heatsink. (it is too
long without bending it a bit) It runs without a fan
between 25C (idle) and 36C (under load). The hottest
I have seen it at with the case shut is 44C. It ran
hotter (70C) when I had the S900 case open. Once I put
the side back on the case, it dropped down to the
lower temp range. No additional fan is needed directly
on the heatsink. I should point out that I have an
additional case fan installed in the bottom fan
bracket near the front of the S900 case.

When connecting the retention clip, make sure that the
heatsink is seated toward the bottom of the carrier
card so that it is seated correctly on the processor.

The only other thing I would caution you about is to
make sure that you are grounded. I have an
anti-static grounding bracelet that shipped with my
zif carrier card (I think). Since you will be
spending about 5-15 minutes trying to get that
retention clip connected correctly, you might want to
make sure that you are somehow wired to ground at all
times.
Good luck and please write back if you need more info.

George
