I've been narrowing down the problem reported a couple of weeks ago re: my Firewire drive directory getting corrupted constantly. There were complications due to a flaky FW bridge on the OWC case which eventually quit altogether. However, after replacing the case (and trying another hard drive) here is the low-down:
1) Everything is fine in OS X - I can read and write to the FW drive with no problem. 2) In OS 9.2.2, I can play back video files and copy files from the Firewire drive, but cannot write to the drive (which explains why Disk Warrior failed to rebuild the directory while in OS9 - it couldn't write the the directory to the drive). When trying to copy files to the FW drive, a "disk error" message pops up (and occasionally the computer locks up). I tried booting from a clean OS 9.1 CD and experienced the same problem. 3) This problem started when I took the FW drive into work to transfer files. We're running OS 10.2.8 there (and I'm now running a dual boot system at home with OS 9.2.2 and OS 10.2.8). Previously, I had no problems operating the FW drive in OS 9. Anyone have suggestions as to what OS X would have done to the hard drive to prevent writing to it in OS 9? -- Gregg -- SuperMacs is sponsored by <http://lowendmac.com/> and...
