Once the corruption pattern started, I was unable to reformat it in OS9 using either HDST or Apple Drive Setup. In fact, the only way I could get the thing back was to take it into work ... it would reformat and operate fine in OSX using Disk Utility (to answer Daevad's question, yes I did check on the "install OS9 drivers" box). Once I got the Sonnet ATA card, I was able to take the drive out of the FW case and reformat it in OS9. But so far, no matter what I've done, the FW drive has issues in OS9. I've even tried a complete zeroing of the drive. It is possible that I've just missed the right combination though.
