I'm just coming in to the middle of this thread. I don't know what you have been trying before. However, I have a small S900 system start-up file that I will send you on a floppy or email to you to put on a floppy. This system has the hacked CD extension on it so when you start up your S900 with it, you can then use your CD drive (no matter what it is). You just start up your S900, put the system CD in your CD drive and you should then be able to install the system on your hard drive from the CD.
There are other factors that can get in the way, but it's worth a try.
Also, when you backed up your 9.1 disk using Toast I am supposing, maybe you did not select the function, "make this disk bootable" when you copied it. That might be another problem. It won't matter though with this start-up floppy.
