I'm running (4) 128 Velocity EDO Dimms. (2) OWC 128 EDO dimms and (2) OWC 128 FPM's, but am still in OS9.1. They all passed the memory test that XLR8 used to bundle with their cards, which I ran for 24 hours. Paul C.

Paul, Thanks for the clarification on the EDO issue. Can
EDO and FPM DIMMs be mixed together without any
issues? I'm curious because you can generally buy EDO
cheaper than FPM. I also need to let Derryck know
that I have a Radeon 7000 PC version PCI card flashed
from PC to Mac in my S900 running rock solid. George

I have to take issue with George N.'s comment on EDO
memory. EDO is a newer, faster subset of FPM memory. The S900/J700
doesn't need the EDO but can use it. The C series machines required EDO
memory. Paul C

Derryck, There are well known issues with the Crescendo 700

and

800 mhz cards with OS X. I was told that Sonnet

has

corrected the problems with their newer cards. It
seems that judging from your post, that they

haven't.

A couple of things that you can try:

Order a 128 meg NON-EDO 5v FPM dimm from OWC.

Remove

all of your RAM and install the new dimm in a slot.

Try booting with the non-EDO memory only. I've

been

told that EDO is a bit slower than non-EDO memory. That may be causing a problem.

Definately install any Sonnet software that they
suggest to install. The fix for OS X may be in the
software.

I can tell you that my S900 is rock solid with an

XLR8

zif carrier card (www.xlr8.com) and a Powerlogix

900

mhz G3 zif.
Good luck

Hi all,

Having great problems with running the above,
getting freezes and hard
crashes.

My S900 has 720MB of OWC's EDO 60 mS RAM in 6

sticks

and a Sonnet ATA 133
IDE card in slot 1 with a 60G drive; Panther is
installed on a 7G partition.

Video card is a flashed Sapphire Radeon 7000 in

slot

2, and the same problem
is present if the above and the accelerator is

moved

to another S900 fitted
with the same supplier's memory (not the same

actual

sticks).

It seems to work fine with the Crescendo 400MHz

card

I was hoping to
upgrade, and RAM checks out as OK when checked

with

Gauge Pro (under OS 9),
and Memtest (under Panther). Further, the 700 card
works perfectly under OS
9.

There's no real difference in reliability in

Panther

regardless of whether
any enabling software is run (ie CPU Director) or
not, Sonnet's TuneUp not
tried.

Faulty card, somehow?
