I'm sorry for missing the "OS X" part of the question.
Although there has been many reports at this forum of generic (not Mac specific) IDE and USB cards working fine in our machines, most must have been in OS 9.
It is true that most USB and FIREWIRE cards that meet the normal specs work in Macs as well as PC's . Where are the many reports at this forum of generic (not Mac specific) IDE (I'm guessing you mean ATA) cards working fine in our machines?
