Just a thought, but even "for Mac" specified PCI cards such as Ultra ATA, the prices have been very reasonable.
I bought the SIIG Ultra ATA card from a walk-in small-biz local Mac store, and the box reads 'direct support from Mac OS 8.6 or above. No third party driver required.
It was plug-n-play in the 7500, perhaps making it all the worthwhile for the premium paid for it being "for Mac".
Not sure if it would be the same experience in a PC installation.


I usually won't choose to walk into a 7-11 for the convenience, but having to spend a bit more for Mac stuff is worth the time saved in workarounds.
