Apple made one too, called the PowerCD.  It played audio CDs, was a single
speed SCSI CD ROM drive, and hooked to your TV for watching Photo CDs.  It
could run off an AC adapter or 8 AA batteries, and it ate those batteries up
fast.

It was a pretty neat unit and I've seen them sell for $200 or $300 on eBay
if you have one in the box with all the parts.
