This may not make a difference, but based on info that was floating around about various versions, I stuck with and updated the 'free' versions through 4.8 until switching to IE (while still in 9.1) and then onto Safari starting with Panther.
I did brifly try 6.0 when it first came out but was very very buggy.
I found 4.76, 4.78 and then 4.8 to be fairly stable while it lasted. (I think I have the version #s correct.)
Just my experience.
