Depends on the controller. Most likely, tho, it will work. OS X will work with the USB 2.0 ports. In OS 9, they will operate at only 1.0 speeds. Firewire should work fine in either OS, so long as the drivers are installed.
Generally, USB/Firewire cards made for that other platform will also work in a Mac without issue.
