Dan mentioned a 'wireless' router, is that the type with the little ariels
on. Are they for 'airport card' connection only, or do they connect wires as
well?

Wireless routers do wired connections as well as wireless. That's why I recommended getting one - sooner or later you'll have a wireless laptop!

Mine is a D-Link DI-624. This is a 802.11b (11 mbps) and 802.11g (54 mbps) device. I think Apple calls these "Airport" and "Airport Extreme" - whatever, it's all the same. The only difference is Apple's costs 4 times as much as everyone else's - as usual.
