apologies in advance. i know that this has been discussed many times on the list, but i never paid a whole lot of attention because i wasn't interested . . . . 'til now. rather than trundle thru my files and archives, can anyone say from experience if
the SIIG UltraATA Pro card will work in a S900 running OS 9.1?

    the SIIG site:

    http://www.siig.com/product.asp?catid=17&pid=419

says blue&white G3 or later and OSX 10.1 or later, but i trust you folks more than them. thanks in advance for advice, info.

IIRC, this is basically a rebadged Sonnet card (or vice versa, since SIIG makes hardware and Sonnet mostly doesn't). In my experience the Sonnet cards have many more compatibility problems. Or rather, in the years of reports on this list, that is the case.

I recommend that you get the Acard 6280M. It has similar features, definitely works on OS 9.1 and also works great in the lower slots of our S900s.

Sorry but you've got this backwards. SIIG ATA cards = Acard not Sonnet. It is confusing as Sonnet has used both the Acard and Promise/Firmtek cards over the years. I do agree that the Acard ATA are in many ways better then the Sonnet Promise/Firmtek cards. They(the Acard) let you bypass the first 8gb of the drive install issue with OSX on old world machines.

Acard makes SIIG cards and the Sonnet 66 ATA & the Sonnet Raid cards
Sonnet 100 &133 & Trio ATA cards are the so called Promise chips with Firmtek firmware. There is reason to believe Firmtek makes these cards. Will S
