Sorry but you've got this backwards. SIIG ATA cards = Acard not Sonnet. It is
confusing as Sonnet has used both the Acard and Promise/Firmtek
cards over the
years. I do agree that the Acard ATA are in many ways better then the Sonnet
Promise/Firmtek cards. They(the Acard) let you bypass the first 8gb
of the drive
install issue with OSX on old world machines.
Hi Will. It is good to hear from you. I'm pretty sure that the
SIIG 100/133 is not an Acard. At least the picture at the URL the
original poster included was not of an Acard. That's what I used to
tweak my hazy memory of the relationship between the sellers,
manufacturers and rebadgers.
Maybe I'm remembering this backwards. One of the "rebadgers" used
one brand of card for their 100/133 card and a different brand of
card for their RAID card. That much I'm certain about and that
switch causes confusion.
Now, was it Sonnet, rebadging the SIIG 100/133 and the Acard RAID, or
was it SIIG rebadging the Sonnet 100/133 and the Acard RAID? I'm
pretty certain that either way, the Sonnet and SIIG 100/133 were the
same non-Acard card, but the SIIG RAID card is the Acard RAID card.
Could be misremembering all over the place though.
However, I am certain that the picture here
<http://www.siig.com/product.asp?catid=17&pid=419> is not of the
Acard 100/133 card. The Acard 100/133 is a lower profile board and
the main controller chip is rectangular rather than square.
So bolstered by this evidence, I'm pretty certain that the SIIG
100/133 is the Sonnet and the SIIG RAID is the Acard. But I know
this brand rebadging switch has caused confusion for me for years, so
am completely open to clarification/correction.
