It's a bit hard for me to understand all the whining over Vista! I have used it since June last year and have never had a single problem with it! For protection I added only AVG as an addition to Vistas firewall and Windows Defender that was preinstalled.

face it, its the same whining people did when win98 came out. Its the same whining when win2000 came out. And its the exact same whining the world did when winxp was forced upon us. And you kow what, we're going to hear it again when win 7 come onto the market.

No, it's not the same whining. A far greater percentage are unhappy with Vista. I didn't whine about moving from Win 3 to Win 95 (loved it); didn't whine about moving from Win 95 to 98 (loved it); didn't whine about moving from 98 to XP (loved it).

I spend two FULL days trying to get an HP laptop with Vista working with SM (which ran slloooowly) and my wife's other programs, but finally took it back to Costco (that was a year ago). Recently, I bought new desktop with an XP "downgrade" preinstalled from Costco - everything up and running in a couple of hours.

One thing I learned from the Vista experience: get about 4 times the processing power, or it will run slower than your XP machine. Unlike the move from Windows 3 to Win 95 to Win 98 to Win XP, where every move brought new and useful features with more stability, Vista brought me neither. I skipped Win ME and that's my plan for Vista. If it looks like my laptop won't last until Win 7 comes out, I'll buy a new one with an XP downgrade before the end of June, when XP is scheduled to disappear from even the business side of Dell, HP, etc.
