Mac's Regardless of how you set anything SM 2 will take over whether you
have other applications to open in SM1.
Same with FireFox 2 and 3 before ff 2 you could have both and what ever
you had set to open FF say for updates it used that.
In SM (and FF) you you go to their Profile folders all the file and
component that use icon (instead of generic file icon) will always show
the latest version. in order to use the older version you actually have
manually open it and then open the file. if you double click on a file
it will always open the latest version
On a Mac, the install is accomplished simply by mounting the disk image,
then dragging the application icon to the Applications folder, or other
location.
Note other location. It is perfectly simple to run both SM 1.1.18 and
2.0 on a Mac. Just create a new folder within Application for SM 2.0.
Drag the icon into that folder, so that SM 1.1.18 is not overwritten.
Since the profile is migrated to a new location, you can easily run both
application, and set either one as defatil for browser, Mail/News, or both.

I understand that. and have been aware of that for years.
What I am referring to, say I open Graphic Converter and it ask whether
I want to download an update. (I have set in Safari - yes you set
default Browser in Safari - to open SM 1.1.x when asking to open a URL.)
even though I have set SM1.1.x as my default Browser SM 2 will open.
same with FF2 and FF 3. in other words the newer version takes over
whether you have it set to or not.
