What Thunderbird 3 problems are you talking about? Are you sure these same
issues will not be in the mailnews part of SeaMonkey 2?
Too much to discuss in detail here, but it was enough to force us to
switch back to Thunderbird 2 already, and I really don't feel good about
using an ancient email client that has reached EOL and will not receive
any critical updates anymore.
[I do much prefer the UI of SeaMonkey compared to ThunderBird, but perhaps this
is because I am used to it.]
Funny... first thing I did was to create a Thunderbird 3 theme for
Seamonkey because I very much prefer the UI of Thunderbird ;)
I'll upload it to addons.mozilla.org soon, still needs some tweaking.
I have read here that it is not possible to install just specific parts of
SeaMonkey. Personally I love the suite, though I only use the browser and
mailnews parts of it.
That'd be a shame... it's not that I don't like the suite, don't get me
wrong. It's just that we cannot possibly allow our users to have an IRC
client running at work. Due to several management decisions we're
running a pretty restricted user management policy around here, and only
provide users with the applications they actually need. And neither
Composer nor IRC are part of that, so we really need to disable them.
It'd be enough if I could simply remove the buttons on the bottom left.

Perfect example of what I've said in the past about maintaining user
configuration choices and flexibility - particularly for enterprise
users - for the purposes of expanding the user-base.
I work in a similar environment, and have been trying to get our IT
managing folks to look at SM to replace Netscape 4.x (used because of
it's certificate handling capabilities) since it went
browser-only...only recently have they removed NS from our machines, but
we're still using Explorer 6.0...which I just got "upgraded" to this
week! We can't administer our own machines, so I can't even evaluate or
choose to use something like Firefox for myself...
...this enterprise stuff grinds slowly.
