Not really, as that would force the user to keep an extra window to have email checked throughout the day. After all, it's a suite. It works all together. It makes sense that once the software is launched, it remains launched. The email portion of it is not a separate entity.
That being said, if someone wants an option added to change that behavious, I'm all for it. I would just hate the current behavious being dropped.
