I recall seeing somewhere a way to do this but cannot

Sometimes I'd like to be able to have only my Browser
open and not have E-mail checking in the background.
E-mail seems to check even when the E-mail window is
not open.
The reason is that sometimes I receive large files with
pictures (usually political cartoons and the like) and
that can clog things up for streaming video.
Anyone recall where that switch is, please?
Edit - Preferences - Mail & Newsgroups
Check - Only check for new email after opening Mail & Newsgroups.
Remember, if you then open the browser, open the Mail client, close the
Mail client, mail will be checked until all open SeaMonkey components
are closed.
I would add that in my experience, disabling mail retrieval only takes
effect when you close all SM components. If you uncheck the box but keep
the program open, it keeps checking as if you'd never done a thing.
Version 2 may be different, I don't know.
