I don't know if the places.sqlite file is portable.
It is, at least as long as you use it with the same (SM/platform)
version.
Dang. This will be a problem for me since I manually copy my bookmarks
and other files (addressbooks and mails) between computers' SM2 (do keep
the same versions updated on all machines). Why is places.sqlite keeping
specific details like OS'?
places.sqlite does not contain OS info (I never said that, quite the
contrary if you care to re-read my reply). You just need to make sure to
use it with equal versions (e.g. SM 2.1 and FF 4.0) since major app
versions may come with updated SQLite version, which may contain
incompatible changes (like from SM 2.0 to SM 2.1).
Ah. So I should have no problems to do manual copies if I keep all my
SM2 the same versions (e.g., v2.1.0) which I already do with previous
versions. I usually synchronize my data files on every PCs and then
upgrade SM2.

"What is that?" "Some kind of insect?" "It's an ant." "Girl, you needed
an exterminator. She had ants on her face." "Well, these aren't your
garden-variety dumpster ants." "And they aren't ... to decomp." "Why are
they in her stomach?" "La hormiga culona--leaf cutter ants. It's a
Colombian dish." "Are you saying that people eat them?" "Fried." "Okay,
so we are looking for a club that serves fried ants." --CSI: Miami
