Thanks, guys. I've got even bigger problems so this new new laptop may be going
back
and I won't have to worry about that for now. Win7 display options do not allow
800x600
resolution in full screen mode, and I spend too much time on my laptop to
squint at that miniscule text all day. :(
Not true. I have just set my copy of Win 7 Enterprise to 800 x 600
without any difficulty. I would imagine that it is a limitation
of your LCD (or LED) display driver than of Win 7 per se.

I've read 40-50 messages in forums about this resolution problem, with
people debating how to solve this problem that many people with
different brand pc's/graphics cards are having... without finding a
resolution to mine.
I suspect all the Win7 adjustments being inaccessible are due to this
ability to link to TV adapters, which I don't care about. I want to see
what is on my computer screen. :)
If you had the below equipment where would you go to find out what to
do? Gateway [mfr] or Intel or Microsoft? Considering I am a novice...
that is.
15.6" LED-backlit LCD high-definition display
With Ultrabright technology and 1366 x 768 resolution showcases movies
and games in stunning clarity.
IntelĀ® HD Graphics 3000
Feature 128MB dedicated video memory for lush images. Also features
support for Microsoft DirectX 10.1. HDMI output allows for an easy
connection to an HDTV.

I probably should have included this too:
IntelĀ® Wireless Display
Wirelessly transmits streamed or downloaded movies, TV shows, music,
photos and more from your laptop, network or the Internet to your TV.
