I've read 40-50 messages in forums about this resolution problem, with people
debating how to solve this problem that many people with different brand

I suspect all the Win7 adjustments being inaccessible are due to this ability
to link to TV adapters, which I don't care about. I want to see what is on my
computer screen. :)
No, I think it is the fact that you are using an LCD display, which
do have a (very) limited number of possible resolutions; the ?integrated?
graphics driver may also be a significant factor. I still live in
the dark ages -- all of my monitors are 21" CRTs -- and whilst some
may think I am crazy, at least I can run everything at 1152 x 864,
which is the resolution at which I feel most comfortable. But of
course I can also run them at 800 x 600 if I choose.
What I meant was they seem to have changed their focus from
"personalization" to "specialization"... and dropping a lot of the
flexibility previously available in Windows O/S.
If you had the below equipment where would you go to find out what to do?
Gateway [mfr] or Intel or Microsoft? Considering I am a novice... that is.
Start with Gateway : they will know the limitations of their LCD
display. If they say "the LCD panel can handle it : it must be
the driver or the video adapter", talk to Intel.

Thanks, Phil. I hate to give up, because I know this isn't the only
brand laptop having this problem.
