You mention Acronis, so I'll assume you're referring to partition
backups. Acronis would likely still work. What's wrong with that?

I used Partition Magic to back up for many years, until Symantec let it
go to seed. When I went looking for something to replace it I Googled
user reviews and ended up downloading http://www.partitionwizard.com/,
both the Windows and boot CD versions.

PartitionMagic (PM) didn't have backup. Maybe you meant DriveImage?
Yes, I miss old
PM (DOS version) too.

Nope. I know Symantec would have preferred that everyone buy their
backup product, but PM did a perfectly good job of it. I used it for
that long before Symantec bought it from PowerQuest and positioned it
for partition changes only.

I have/use PM 8.0 Build 1274 dated 3/14/2003 and there is no backup
function in that version. It does allow you to create a backup partition
where you can store "backup files or image files created by PowerQuest(R)
DriveImage(R)" according to the Help file. They also mention that you can
install Datakeeper to do the back-ups but I don't see that anywhere.

You COPY the partition, give it a new name (source and date in my case) and change it to 'hidden'. That there is no menu item labeled 'Backup' is irrelevant.
