I can't say that I disagree without digging into the code and looking at wireshark. But I reckon if there were/are any serious security issues: 1) Ubuntu probablyly wouldn't allow it in their repositories: http://packages.ubuntu.com/search?keywords=apturl and 2) such issue would show up on: https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/apturl/+bugs http://people.canonical.com/~ubuntu-security/cve/pkg/apturl.html As for the "Software Center"...
