In my list of files where I can place incoming E-mail is an entry

The Archive feature allows you to set up an archive of your messages,
rather than deleting them. When you want to archive a message, just
press <Shift>-<A>. It's also in the Message menu and right-click menu.
For Archiving preferences and to disable it, go to
Edit-->Mail_&_Newsgroups_Account_Settings-->Copies_&_Folders.
And what is the benefit of this? And how does it actually work? For
example, is the archive part of the profile or outside of it? Why should
I use it?
It's a fairly painless way of moving all your folders from an IMAP
account structure to local folders, for one thing. Archiving can,
optionally, create the full containing folder structure. I just did this
for one account due to the offline capability of IMAP browsing really
not working well for me on my SM installation. I decided to archive my
entire set of folders onto my local folders so that when I'm offline,
it's all there without fuss or muss. Absolutely worked a charm and
solves the problem of being forced to use IMAP for this account (an
Exchange server) and being previously unable to see many/most of the
messages in folders even after quadruple-checking my subscriptions.
Archiving also features the capacity of yearly or monthly archived
folders, which can improve navigation for those who deal with many
thousands of messages per year in an account.
