It's been my experience that IMAP with SeaMonkey is not quite as comfortable as I'd like. I archive all my IMAP mail in local folders.

Been using it for years, both Mac and Windows, works just fine. Issues tend to be at the ISP end (the server I run never gives me problems, the account I have at GoDaddy sometimes shows symptoms of overload).
