Some time ago my credit union started a process whereby I could
deposit
checks into my account by scanning (which was good, since I live 500
miles away).

Worked great for a year and a half (over two dozen checks). Then along
came SM 2.26. Ever since then the scanning process fails. Here's the
procedure (a bit simplified):

--Call up the deposit s/w; it starts.
--Answer questions about the account and the check.
--Place check on scanner.
--Click on "Scan front of check".

And that where it ends. Scanning never starts.

where in that procedure is SeaMonkey involved?

SM is the way I access the credit union site, through which I then
access the scanning s/w. Nothing changed in the sequence except that I
upgraded SM to 2.26.

Basically what the site is doing is web-enabling your scanner, similar
to the phone apps that allow you to take a picture of a check and
deposit it...I've wondered how and when they'd get around to doing this
via computer. Either a cache has gotten hung someplace or SM has
suddenly gone unsupported by the bank software.

What I'd suggest is to try physically disconnecting and reconnecting
your scanner - try it without and with SM launched and see what happens.

You might also try spoofing the older SM 2.26 UA string and see if it
works with that.

Thank you for your idea. I cleared the cache and did the
disconnect/connect suggestion, and it seems to have worked. (Don't know
why, but these things are mostly mysterious magic.) We'll see if it
holds up, but so far so good!

Glad it helped!

You may find you need to do this after every update now...keep it in mind if the problem crops up again.
