Hartmut, your pref is changing the background colour (or color, :-) ).
How does that effect the colour of the type??

You can set other values as well, font-family, -size, -color, other
things...

.moz-txt-sig, .moz-signature {
    name-1: value;
    name-2: value;
    [...]
    name-n: value;
}

Maybe you have to add !important. Exercise gains knowledge. :-P

As long as I see it as lighter text when I'm viewing an email or post, whatever is done doesn't matter.

I want to know it is a signature and not content.
