Correction: "... NOTHING in them."

Sorry, I misunderstood what you asked me to look for. There were 9999
'sessionstore' files and most where shown as having anything in them.
Should I just delete them all?

I only have two:
sessionstore.json
sessionstore.bak

The json file contains the browser configuration and I think is used to
restore the session. I tend to be cautious: try (with SM closed) just
moving them all to another directory then restart the browser.

I found the two files you mentioned plus 'sessionstore-1.json' through
'sessionstore-9999.json'.

Only the file listed as 'sessionstore.json' had a value - about 800, and
all of the numbered 'sessionstore-x.json' files (x = 1 through 9999)
listed a value of '0'. Out of desperation, I moved 'sessionstore.json'
and all 9999 of the numbered 'sessionstore-x.json' to the recycle bin.

Restarting SeaMonkey, the problem had disappeared and I don't find
anything else has gone wrong. Could this mean that v.2.46 has a 9999
limit on the number of sessionstore files that can be stored?

My inclination is to dump all of the files in the Recycle Bin. Yes?
No? Do something else?

You can toss them. You'll find SM has created a new sessionstore.json file based on your current browser tabs.
