SeaMonkey 2.49 from Mozilla ftp site

The 2.49 build of SeaMonkey from the Mozilla ftp site will not put the 
name of the newsgroup into the compose window, and will not even mark it 
as a newsgroup. In fact, the whole compose window seems to be 
nonfunctional.  Is there any way to fix that? Adrian Kalla's build 
worked perfectly.
There must be some way to get it to work, surely?
