I submitted the following reply yesterday but it never appeared. Here it is again. Your very annoying advertisement for Avast indicates that is the anti-virus application you are using. Avast now owns AVG. Updates to AVG have the option to install Chrome, with the default set to "yes". It is likely Avast now does the same. If that is what is happening, you have to set your Avast options to block automatic updates. Then when you do a manual update, be careful to uncheck the checkbox that allows installation of Chrome. In the meantime, disable your Internet connection. Close all applications. Do a search for files named chrome.exe, deleting all occurances and their associated folders. This might require unlocking files with the Unlocker application from <http://www.emptyloop.com/unlocker/> or resorting to Windows' DOS-like window and entering command lines to delete files. Run regedit.exe to search for the character string "chrome" (without the quotes). If you find any that are NOT related to SeaMonkey or other Mozilla-based application and not related to the metal, VERY CAREFULLY delete the registry key. Note that Mozilla used "chrome" for something quite different from and well before Google named its browser Chrome. It is best you do a complete system backup before changing your registry. -- David E.
