A couple of other possibilities occur to me - you said you are trying 
to migrate to the mac starting with a version of ebase with 
out-of-date data. Is that ebase version .103 also? Version 103 was 
created with FileMaker version 5, and the 103 files won't open with a 
102 runtime, which was based on FileMaker version 4.

Second thought, what Type and Creator codes are you changing the 
files to? The Type should be FMP5, and the Creator 1F03 for the 
runtime (not FMP5, for the FileMaker application).
