We discussed in the Atlanta ebase training class that there isn't an accounting
program that integrates with ebase (like Blackbaud's program integrates with
Raisers Edge). My understanding is (please, someone correct me if I'm wrong) that you
cannot create a data file with Filemaker Pro to export into an accounting
package.
I don't know of any free accounting packages. Non-profit accounting is not like
for-profit accounting, and this creates a vertical market situation (a narrow
market niche) in which much money can be made. I have heard of a non-profit that uses
an accounting package designed for contractors, because of the ability to
create projects for which income and expenses can be tracked. I'm a little dubious
about this application, however, because a for-profit does not have to
categorize income as restricted, temporarily restricted and unrestricted. I'm not
sure what the work around is for that. I'll try to find out more at let you
know.
