One caveat about the user fields. They are available in ebase's built-in import routine to hold data that won't easily go into the other existing fields in ebase's import routine. This is important b/c of how the import routine works, and is too detailed to get into on the list. If you have permanent data in those fields and then do an import using those same fields, you may lose data. You really should use another field you aren't planning to use for anything else or create a new field.
