As Clif noted, land trusts may be able to take advantage of some work that he will do later this month with some land trusts in Maine. In essence, he will be creating codes specifically for a few land trusts that we think will be generalizable to many land trusts.
It's one of the really kewl things about ebase 2.0 data structure that we can share our codes based on best practices. And I think Clif's work will be the first demonstration about how we can do that. Imagine in the future that as you download ebase you can indicate what kind of organization or what kind of communications/fundraising strategies you employ. Then we ship with your ebase sample codes with documentation to get you started. Also, on GIS, it depends on what you want to do in a GIS for a land trust as to whether or not ebase is of use. Remember, the primary entity that ebase is tracking is a contact (usually a person), and that contact will usually have at least one geographically describable location. Ebase does have in it the ability to record that description, as a latitude and longitude. This data can be made visible to other applications, such as ArcView. So, with a GIS, you can map where your people are, in relation to where the land you are protecting is. Once you have that relationship made, I imagine you could map where donations voluntary activities are (as they are tied to contacts).
