Yes, you're right, we should be capable of this.  And, at least in our 'laboratory' 
setting, the v1 import wizard did function well, including import of payments, 
pledges, etc.

So something's not right here.  Sorry it's giving you trouble, but there are many 
factors that vary from computer to computer and installation to installation that 
could affect this sort of operation.  So don't worry, we'll figure out how to make it 
work for you.

To help us get to the bottom of this, could you provide us with some more information:
* What platform (mac, windows, what version)?
* Are you using FMP or the runtime version of ebase?
* Did you convert your copy of v1.02 to Filemaker 5 format?
* Do you get any error messages or other signs of problems during the import process?
* Are any other Log Items besides payments being imported successfully?
* Are payments and/or other log items present in the Preview Area before import to 
ebase?  (Check the metadata area on the right side of the screen after you're done 
extracting your data into the Preview Area for record counts.)

Let's start with that and see where we get.
